A Predictive Study of Students' Achievement in the University of Khartoum in Light of Some Social and Academic Variables

Abstract

The aim of this research was to reveal the possibility of predicting the study achievement on some social variables on students samples from Khartoum University, which received the highest and lowest rates of general admission, for the academic year (2007- 2008), where the number of the random samples (953) students out of (4300). Fore prediction of study achievement and to correlate to some socio- demographic variables (Parent's age, parental status, type of residence, and birth order). Based on the Sudanese certificate a questionnaire was designed. In order to process the data for statistical analysis, the T test and the standard deviation were used. The analysis of the variance of the regression of the social variables was used on the scholastic achievement, and then the linear regression analysis of the social variables was tested to predict the scholastic achievement. The results of the linear regression analysis show that, possible to predict scholastic achievement, since there is a significant moral effect for (mother education, father education, and illiterate occupation, and student age, family residence at level of significance (0. 000), (0. 003) and (0. 009) respectively. Based on the current findings of our study, a number of recommendations and future researches were proposed.
